A good time was had by all at the Maryland/West Virginia Jaycees Convention held at Wisp Resort August 23rd-25th. A first in countless years for a joined convention, this unique opportunity allowed Jaycees from the neighboring states to network, share ideas and create new friendships.
Friday night’s kick-off celebration included a Mixology Contest in which two of our members competed. Trisha Root placed second for her drink creation, “It Looks Like Coke, But It’s No Joke,” and Raliegh Loffert placed third with her drink creation, “Myrtle Beach.” The winners received gear from the “Nothing But Nets” campaign which raises money to provide Malaria Nets for areas in Africa.
Saturday’s events included IMPACT training, which is an interactive training that discusses how Jaycees can make more of an impact in their communities by analyzing problems that each may be facing. After lunch, a geocaching adventure took place allowing Jaycees and their families to explore all the Wisp Resort has to offer.
Saturday night’s Grease-themed banquet saw the Western Maryland Jaycees bring home more awards, which were proudly accepted by Brent Buser, Associate Western Maryland Jaycee Member and 64th President of the Maryland Jaycees. (These awards will be kept a secret until the membership meeting on September 11th!)
State President’s Coach and 69th President of the Maryland Jaycees Jennifer Ray announced the upcoming National Convention to be held in Baltimore. This is an incredible opportunity for Maryland and all of its chapters to shine! Please go to https://www.jci.cc/event/annualmeeting2014 for more information.
The next Maryland Jaycees Convention will be held in November. Specific dates and a location will be announced at a later date. This convention will include the induction of the new Executive Team for 2014. See you there!
